Thanks to the players especially our guests from Angus, Bracebridge, Newmarket and Parry Sound.

Everyone played long and hard and many observers noted improvement in the way their their level of  play by the end of the day from what they had seen before.  It’s amazing what that little extra effort does to a player’s skill set.

For several players this was their first exposure to competition.  They all rose to the challenge with flying colours.

It was wonderful to see new friendships being formed among parents and players from the various clubs.

Thanks also to all the parents, coaches and high school students who helped make the tournament run so smoothly.

For those who used this tournament as a tune-up for the GBDBA Junior Championships next weekend – Good luck!!

Five Falcons attended the last GBDBA Junior Tournament before the Championships to be held in Barrie on April 9/10.  This tournament was the only tournament to focus on Mixed Doubles although U11s could play as a Doubles or Mixed team as GBDBA doesn’t differentiate between the genders at this age level.

Carter Pallister and William Nunnenmacher played their initial badminton tournament at any level and came away with the Silver medal at the A level upsetting their team mates Cameron Bird and Nolan Harbridge 21-15, 21-19 in their initial match.  Cameron and Nolan who finished with the Gold medal at the B level managed to regroup, losing a tough 3 game match and then winning their final match in 3 games.

At the U17 category Dhir Patel, a U15 player, teamed up with Josee Philips of Midland and triumphed with the A Gold winning all of their games in all four matches although the final game was a 23-21 nail-biter against a team from Favourite B.C. in Newmarket.

Nine Falcon’s competed in the first GBDBA Junior Tournament co-hosted by Bracebridge and Gravenhurst using Gravenhurst gyms.

Four boys competed in the U11 age category.  They used a round robin format playing 2 games to 11 with a tie-breaker to 5 points if necessary.  With 8 players in the pool that meant 7 matches per player.  All the players skill levels were very similar.  The matches were very close and the 5 point tie-breaker was frequently used.  Om Patel finished B Champion.  Jake Reynolds was C Champion with Cameron Bird as C Finalist.  D Champion was Nolan Harbridge.

Julianna Richardson was our only female competitor and finished as C Champion in the GSU15.

In BSU15 we had 2 players.  A strong showing by Morgan Gillan led to him securing C Championship in a very tough category.  A first year player, AJ McGill, won his very first match and then ran into some very tough players but made a great showing for his debut in tournament play.

In BSU17 Shrey Patel lost his final match, a very hard fought match, to end up B Finalist.

Dhir Patel was playing up and age category in U17 (he is a U15 player) but played amazing badminton to beat a Machi player in the finals in two games, 21-15 and 21-16 finishing A Champion!
